Im Dialog: Bach und Telemann
In future the newly designed Bach Week will present the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in a multi-faceted dialogue with works by a second composer. Bach in dialogue with Telemann is the theme of the 2019 Bach Week, which is aimed at tomorrow’s up-and-coming generation of musicians and takes place between the birthdays of Georg Philipp Telemann (14.3.) and Johann Sebastian Bach (21.3.). The focus is working on the sacred repertoire of these two composers: on the Johannes-Passion of Georg Philipp Telemann and on cantatas where Bach and Telemann both set the same libretto.
The range of courses includes master classes in solo singing, courses in choral singing and orchestral playing (the latter for the first time on baroque original instruments) for young musicians from all over the world, brought together in the JSB Ensemble (Young Stuttgart Bach Ensemble). There is also the opportunity to attend rehearsals, workshop concerts, lectures and panel discussions with experts from the field of Bach and Telemann research. These open up the master classes to the public, making it an inspiring, rich and varied week about Bach and Telemann for all.
The Birthday Concert for Bach on 21.3. with his Johannes-Passion – performed by the Gaechinger Cantorey under Akademie Director Hans-Christoph Rademann – rounds off the week as a fitting counterpart to the opening concert.
