Every year from 2011 to 2015, the Stuttgart Bach Week assembled an international orchestra and choir from over twenty countries – the Young Stuttgart Bach Ensemble, or JSB Ensemble. The main musical emphasis was on the work of Johann Sebastian Bach.
For the first time, the JSB Ensemble was the resident festival ensemble of the Musikfest Stuttgart in 2017, focussing on »Freedom« as its theme. The JSB Ensemble opened the festival with the first concert, Bach’s St John Passion (2nd version of 1725).
In addition, the JSB Ensemble each created an ambitious programme for orchestra and choir a cappella. As a special highlight, the JSB Ensemble performed two Bach cantatas under the direction of Helmuth Rilling, founder of the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, in the music festival series »Sichten auf Bach« (Views on Bach).
During Bach Week 2019 with the theme "Bach and Telemann in Dialogue", the JSB Ensemble was performing for the first time on original Baroque instruments and replicas.
