Every year from 2011 to 2015, the Stuttgart Bach Week assembled an international orchestra and choir from over twenty countries – the Young Stuttgart Bach Ensemble, or JSB Ensemble. The main musical emphasis was on the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. For the first time, the JSB Ensemble was the resident festival ensemble of the Musikfest Stuttgart in 2017, focussing on »Freedom« as its theme. During Bach Week 2019 with the theme "Bach and Telemann in Dialogue", the JSB Ensemble was performing for the first time on original Baroque instruments and replicas.
Following the successful concept of last year’s edition in placing Johann Sebastian Bach’s music in a dialogue with works by another composer, this time the dialogue will take place within the family. Together with the soloists of Singing Masterclasses you can study and perform: J. S. Bach’s »Köthener Trauermusik« BWV 244a as well as works by father Bach and his sons. In the final concert the JSB Ensemble will perform Bach’s »Opus summum et ultimum«, the Mass in B minor BWV 232 under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann, on Bach’s birthday.
