Musikfest Stuttgart 2020
12. – 28. Juni 2020
We are moving the Musikfest Stuttgart from the end of the summer holidays to the period after Whitsun in June. In the future we will be working together with many of Stuttgart’s cultural institutions, including the Staatsoper, the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra and the SWR Symphony Orchestra.
2020 is not only a Beethoven Year, but also marks the 250th birthday of the Swabian poet Friedrich Hölderlin.
It’s for this reason that the theme of the Musikfest Stuttgart 2020 is "heilignüchtern". A concept of shifting fantasy from Hölderlin’s poem Hälfte des Lebens of 1804, which combines a wealth of exciting contrasts: sacred-secular, ecstatic-sober, youth-age, modern-old, the Holy Spirit as well as the secular longings of gluttony and of exuberance … and much more besides! The Musikfest Stuttgart draws its inspiration for 2020 from this range of conceptual fields – including Beethoven and Hölderlin.
In collaboration with internationally-renowned soloists and guest ensembles, and in cooperation with leading Stuttgart institutions, a festival programme has been created which will resonate far beyond the boundaries of the State Capital.
Programme details available from January 2020
