Season's concerts
The Bachakademie's two subscriptions, based in Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg, are the only concert series in Germany featuring choral and choral symphonic music at the highest professional level. Their program traditionally extends far beyond the entire work of Johann Sebastian Bach, for example in an evening of works by Verdi and Puccini, two icons of Italian opera. L'enfance du Christ by Hector Berlioz tells the Christmas story from an unusual, southern French perspective. We dedicate an evening to the work of the young Mozart in Salzburg, and open the series with Jephtha, the last oratorio by George Frideric Handel. Full of energy, Johann Sebastian Bach took up the post of Thomaskantor in Leipzig in May 1723. He wrote over sixty cantatas in his first year alone. Almost exactly three hundred years later, the Bachakademie and the Gaechinger Cantorey are launching the VISION.BACH project: a presentation of this cantata year in concerts and CD productions. The starting signal is given at the end of the Stuttgart subscription series - and you can be part of it!
