OPUS KLASSIK for VISION.BACH!
Hans-Christoph Rademann and the Gaechinger Cantorey are awarded the OPUS KLASSIK 2024 in the category "Choral Recording of the Year" for "Johann Sebastian Bach: The First Cantata Year" Vol. 1.
"We are honored to receive the OPUS KLASSIK. The Gaechinger Cantorey and the entire Bachakademie team can be proud of it. My thanks go to the musicians of our ensemble and the sponsors whose great commitment made this project possible in the first place. I also see the prize as a confirmation of our work. It shows once again that Stuttgart is an important crystallization point for the international reception of Bach." Hans-Christoph Rademann (Academy Director)
The award-winning opening album of the ten-part series on hänssler Classic features the cantatas "Die Elenden sollen essen" (BWV 75), "Die Himmel erzählen die Ehre Gottes" (BWV 76), "Ein ungefärbt Gemüte" (BWV 24), "Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis" (BWV 21.3) and "Barmherziges Herze der ewigen Liebe" (BWV 185.2) by Johann Sebastian Bach. Alongside Hans-Christoph Rademann and his Gaechinger Cantorey, Miriam Feuersinger and Natasha Schnur (soprano), Alex Potter (alto), Patrick Grahl and Benedikt Kristjánsson (tenor) as well as Tobias Berndt and Matthias Winckhler (bass) will perform the solo parts.
The media partner for this major project is the music label hänssler Classic. "The collaboration with the Bachakademie has a long tradition," says Günter Hänssler. "It began in 1976 under my father and continues to this day. The CD edition of these Bach cantatas is definitely a milestone in our very fruitful relationship."
The VISION
The focus of the 2023/24 season of the International Bach Academy Stuttgart was Johann Sebastian Bach's first year in Leipzig. From May 20, 1723, the new Thomaskantor threw himself into the composition and performance of new cantatas with real zeal: Leipzig churchgoers were treated to over sixty pieces of this kind up until Trinity Sunday the following year. Sunday after Sunday, holiday after holiday, including Christmas, Easter, Ascension and Pentecost. Exactly 300 years later, all of these cantatas were performed in 23 concerts with the Gaechinger Cantorey under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann in Stuttgart and the surrounding area.
The VISION
VISION.BACH is the name of this ambitious project. VISION, to give an idea of what Bach actually achieved in this short span of time. VISION, because with his music he obviously succeeded in addressing the people who heard it week after week in Leipzig, in illustrating, deepening, interpreting the word of the Gospel with a new, individual art. VISION to think again about this music, about what it has to say to us today in connection with the texts.
